In this You Tube video, you will see a debate between MSNBC’s Christ Tucker and Gen. Wesley Clark. The two discuss, Rush Limbaughs recent remarks he made on Armed force radio, that veteran of the Iraq war who don’t support the war are unpatriotic. In the video Clark pushes for political discussion to be censored.I’d like to take this opportunity to remind Gen. Clark, that in this country we have something called the 1st Amendment, which includes free speech. If we are going to go into countries like Iraq and promote our ideals, shouldn’t they remain steadfast here at home.As a blogger, and someone who is involved in political discourse I am appalled by this idea of censoring political conversation.  What do you think?  

I am not about to say that we should go into Iran today and level the place, however I am going to say it is ridiculous to place any form of restrictions on the options the President has to deal with the Iranian nuclear crisis. The NY SUN blog writes:

Senator Clinton’s announcement yesterday that she plans to support legislation to block President Bush from taking military action against Iran without prior approval from Congress did not sit well with Mitt Romney.   

I personal think that those in Congress supporting legislation like this are trying to fix their “mistake,” when they authorized the Iraq war. In politics you can’t “Monday morning quarterback,” in other words try to fix your mistake. You must move forward and deal with the current situation in a manner that protects the country. Passing legislation that would “block President Bush from taking military action against Iran,” is not the right thing to do. What Congress should do is  work with the President to help defuse the situation as well as await for the President to ask to perform military action in Iran, he did it for Iraq, and he’ll do it again.

President Bush realizes that our armed forces are at a breaking point. In order to go into Iran, a third front in the “war on terror,” we would need to leave someplace else, Iraq or Afghanistan and we can’t do that. I believe the President recognizes this and is attempting to defuse the Iranian Nuclear Crisis, multilaterally through the United Nations with sanctions.What do you think?

In dealing with the speech by President Mahmoud Ahmadinajad of Iran, Mitt Romney comes out on top. Not only has he been the most vocal but he has some background on this. In a radio spot, Romney highlighted the work he did as governor of Massachusetts to stop hate speech by an former Iranian President, Mohammad Khatami.The Radio Spot transcript can be found below;

On the eve of the fifth anniversary of 9/11, Harvard University invited former Iranian President Mohammad Khatami to Boston. The same Mohammad Khatami who has supported the terrorist group Hezbollah, advocates destruction of Israel and stood by while Jews and Christians were persecuted.The Iranian wanted VIP treatment at taxpayer expense. But Governor Mitt Romney said, ‘No.’ Governor Romney called the invitation a ‘disgrace’ and refused to grant Khatami a police escort.Now another Iranian President is visiting America, coming to New York, and Governor Mitt Romney is leading the opposition.”

He has also confronted the United Nations in a way no other Presidential candidate has done thus far.

Sen. John McCain tonight spoke at the Mackanic Republican Leadership Conference, and according to Rob Bluey, received a standing ovation for taking a hard line when it came to the President of Iran scheduled visit and speech at Columbia University. McCain said,

“And I certainly think a man who is directing the maiming and killing of Americans troops should not be given an invitation to speak at an American university.  Rather than rolling out the red carpet for the leader of a terrorist-sponsoring regime, Columbia should be welcoming the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps back on campus to honor the men and women who put their lives on the line every day defending our freedom.”  

Sen. McCain is completely correct here. President Ahmadinajad, should be granted his right to speak at the U.N. and then should be brought back by the U.S. Secret Service (Unfortunately we have to provide) to his plane. Otherwise the U.N. should indite him for inciting genocide, he has said repeatedly that he wants to “wipe Israel off the map”.

I really have touched upon the Jena 6 issue because I really am not fully informed on the complete details of the issue. However I read a quote in the NY Sun today regarding Barack Obama lack of voice on the issue. 

Yesterday, Mr. Obama was taunted by a veteran civil rights advocate, the Reverend Jesse Jackson, who made disparaging remarks about the senator for his failure to take the lead on the issue and said he was “acting like he’s white,” according to a report in a newspaper in Columbia S.C., the State”If I were a candidate, I’d be all over Jena. Jena is a defining moment, just like Selma was a defining moment,” Rev. Jackson said.   

I have to disagree with Rev. Jackson, that Obama is “acting like he’s white”, any black man or women (i.e. Oprah) who tries to over come the stereotypes in not “acting like he’s white.” They are in theory trying to set an example for the rest of the African American community. I applaud Mr. Obama for not using the Jena case as podium for political advancement. Sen. Obama did what any candidate should do on the case and issued this statement 

Today I stand with those who stand for justice in Jena.  The thousands of Americans from every race and region who have descended on this small Louisiana town carry forth the legacy of all those who sat at lunch counters and took freedom rides to strike a blow against injustice wherever it may exist.  When a noose hangs from a schoolyard tree in the 21st century and young men are treated in a way that is not equal nor just, it is not just an offense to the people of Jena or to the African-American community, it is an offense to the ideals we hold as Americans.  I renew my call for the District Attorney to drop the excessive charges filed in this case, and I will continue my decades-long fight against injustice and division as President.
