On Fox News Sunday, Mike Huckabee said
“Well, let’s just hope Fred decides it’s just too hot this summer to even do this. Maybe he won’t get in. But if he does, I think he’s going to suck a lot of the oxygen out of the room when he first comes in. But I’m not sure I’d want to be in his position where the expectations are simply just sky-high for him to be able to perform. People are expecting him to basically come in and be the fifth head on Mount Rushmore. Whether he can live up to that — I think there’s a real challenge for anybody to live up to that, including if Ronald Reagan were to come back.”
I personally believe Huckabee is wrong, the hype is strong for Thompson because the Republican Presidential field is completely open. Unlike the Democrats where you have your 3 top tier candidates that the people like, Obama, Clinton, and Edwards, the Republicans have their top tier but none of which are 100% appealing to voters. Each in the top tier have an individual issue which hurts. Thompsons entry into the race, would change the entire race. What do you think?

Ex-Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson could announce around July 1 whether he’s running for president.
Thompson or emissaries have sent out feelers to strategists and pollsters, some of whom were involved with Steve Forbes’ 1996 and 2000 presidential campaigns, according to people with knowledge of the discussions and to published reports. One of the ex-Forbes advisers named by the political website Hotline was respected Republican pollster John McLaughlin. He’s not working for any other candidate now.
Those familiar with Thompson’s deliberations are not 100% sure he is running, but the lawyer-turned-actor-turned-politician-turned-actor is keeping a heavy public speaking schedule, and he has said he’s interested in TV interviews.
